In 2007, over 25 million toys were recalled in the United States due to child safety hazards. Over 27,000 deaths and 33 million injuries were attributed to dangerous products.
In order to prevent further deaths and injuries, the U.S. Senate is considering legislation that will increase toy and products testing, make selling recalled products a criminal offense, and increase penalties against manufacturers from $1.83 million to $100 million.
